The actor passed away in hospital surrounded by his family
Luke Perry has passed away at the age of 52, after suffering a stroke at his home in Los Angeles last Thursday. The actor died at St. Joseph's Hospital in Burbank, surrounded by his children Jack and Sophie, fiance and other close family members and friends, TMZ reports. The actor is best known for his role in , where he played Dylan McKay. He also played the role of Archie Andrews’ dad Fred Andrews in , and had recently been filming scenes for the new series.

Following the tragic news, Luke's Riverdale co-star Molly Ringwald wrote on Twitter: "My heart is broken. I will miss you so much Luke Perry. Sending all my love to your family." Meanwhile, Joss Whedon, creator of , remembered the first encounter he had with Luke. "The first time I met Luke Perry we talked about what kind of movie we wanted 'Buffy' to be. I asked if he'd ever seen and he gave me a look of HOW DARE YOU SIR and I knew we'd get along. Funny, committed, and always gracious. He shouldn't be gone," he said. Luke's 90210 co-star Ian Zeiring added: "Dearest Luke, I will forever bask in the loving memories we've shared over the last thirty years. May your journey forward be enriched by the magnificent souls who have passed before you, just like you have done here, for those you leave behind."

News of Luke’s stroke and untimely death came just as Fox announced plans to film a reboot to , in which the actor first found fame in the 1990s. However, Luke hadn’t signed on to the new project, despite his original costars Jennie Garth, Brian Austin Green, Tori Spelling, Ian Ziering, and Jason Priestley set to take part.
